Abstract

In the present work, the behavior of wear in a nodule cast iron of the automotive industry using techniques of image morphological processing is studied. In sections of different thickness, wear tests were performed using a tribometer pin-on-disk. Then, the traditional parameters such as nodularity, nodule size and volume fraction were calculated on these areas unable to find a relationship of these parameters with wear behavior. However, a study based on the concept of cluster that integrate size and spatial distribution allowed us to determine that grouping are related to the leading role in the wear behavior.
